What is a thumbnail?

A video thumbnail is an image that acts as the preview image for your video.

If you want a thumbnail displayed for your scheduled stream, you will have to go to your YouTube channel to create this. The thumbnail will have to be created after you have scheduled the stream in LIVEpigeon.

Do I have to use a thumbnail?

No, but it can be enticing for viewers and it can add a professional touch to your broadcast! If you chose not to do a custom thumbnail for your videos that stream to YouTube, the default thumbnail will be the image below.

Do I have to do this every time I schedule a video to YouTube?

Yes (if you are wanting a thumbnail), each video that you schedule to YouTube will need to be edited and customized.

How to create a thumbnail inside YouTube:

Step 1: Go to your YouTube Studio

Go to your YouTube channel and in the top right corner, click on the drop-down menu. You will then select “YouTube Studio”. This will take you to a new screen.

Step 2: Find the content in your channel

On the left-hand side menu panel, you will select “Content”. This will take you to your channel’s content.

Step 3: Go to the live content on your channel

The default is set to show you the "Uploads", so you will have to select “Live”. All of your upcoming, scheduled LIVEs will be listed in the top portion.

Step 4: Edit the upcoming live

Place your cursor over the title of the video and several tools will appear. Click on the pencil icon. This will take you to the video details.

Step 5: Upload your thumbnail

Scroll down to find the “upload thumbnail” option. This will open the file manager from your computer, where you can then select the image you are wanting for the thumbnail.

All done! The custom thumbnail for your YouTube video is all set up!

Pro Tip:

  • You can use your organization’s logo, a personal photo, professional photo, or even something to do with the specific message for that day, but be sure to switch it up every now and again to prevent followers from getting bored.
